Institute of Anatomy

The Institute of Anatomy belongs to the medical faculty of the university of Bern. Its scope of duties comprise preclinical teaching in human, dentist and veterinary medical curricula as well as in many other paramedical fields. Research topics include base science in the fields of skeletal and smooth muscle, the lung and its development, particle interactions in the lung, stereology and others.

Clinical Anatomy

The Centre for Clinical Anatomy at the Institute of Anatomy of the University of Bern was founded in 2010. It is considered to be the first of its kind in Switzerland to offer medical training courses and advanced education in close cooperation with anatomists and clinicians.

Sinergia funding for six interdisciplinary projects at Bern

Ten researchers from the University of Bern have been awarded Sinergia funding from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) for their six research projects. The projects are being supported by the SNSF with funds totaling approximately CHF 6.7 million over a period of four years.

SASRO GRANT 2023 to our colleague Verdiana Trappetti

Our colleague Verdiana Trappetti was awarded with the SASRO Grant 2023. Every year the Scientific Association of Swiss Radiation Oncology (SASRO) is awarding one or more reaserch grants to research projects of young SASRO members (under 35 years of age) working in Switzerland. For 2023 there was one grant of 5000.- CHF available and it was awarded to Verdiana Trappetti.

Inauguration of the High End Cryo-Electron Microscopy Facility

We celebrated the new cryo-TEM Titan Krios G4 and the new cryo-FIBSEM Aquilos 2 from Thermofisher Sci in presence of Prof. Werner Kühlbrandt (MPI Biophyiscs, Frankfurt), the Rector, the Vice-Rector Research, the Dean of the Medical Faculty and several distinguished external guests.

Poster Price for the Best Medical Project

Nick Kirschke was awarded the prize for the best medical poster at the Day of Biomedical Research 2023 from the University of Bern.

First price for the classical research lecture

Sanja Blaskovic recently attended the Annual European Student Symposium on Anatomical Research 2023. She was invited to give a lecture and won the 1st price for the classical research lecture.

Prof. Valentin Djonov received the title of Dr. honoris causa from the University of Kragujevac

Prof. Valentin Djonov received the title of Dr. honoris causa on 30 May. 2023 from the University of Kragujevac, Serbia. He received the honorary doctorate for his exceptional contribution to medical science, for the newly developed tumour therapy stakes, and for his support and collaboration with several research groups at the University of Kragujevac.
